This past August, Higher Ground took a group of 15 female participants down the Main Fork of the Salmon River. Of those 15 women, 14 had served their country in the military. It was a memorable group of courageous, supportive women. 3 women conquered a fear of water to navigate white water rapids. Several other women went camping for the first time since their service. In that group was one civilian, Ariel, the daughter of a veteran. On this trip surrounded by strong women Ariel was able to find her voice. Ariel has gone on many trips with her mother. On this particular trip she felt supported to be her own person, to speak up for her needs, to push her boundaries and to find space to grow. Ariel was empowered by the examples of the women around her. Ariel plans to go on to serve in the military. We are proud to serve our nation’s veterans and the people who support our veterans. Ariel is her Mom’s go to person, her best friend and now with her renewed strength and vision she can continue on strong for herself and her mother.
