Adaptive Instructor Training @ Bald Mountain

Higher Ground is always looking to provide the best possible therapeutic recreation and adaptive sports to participants. In the winter, adaptive skiing and snowboarding is the modality of recreation. HG provides training to all instructors- staff, volunteers, board members, etc. This specific on-snow training focuses on teaching adaptive disciplines. Each day will cover a different discipline.

 

November 30: Basic Progression and Cognitive

December 1: 3/4-track and Slider

December 2: Mono/Bi-ski

December 3: Ski Bike and Visually Impaired

HG Virtual Art Program

This program will utilize writing prompts, group discussion, and creative expression, to guide artists to recognizing emotions they might experience or identify with, in order to create their project with art supplies found at home (ie: pen, pencils, paper, colored pencils, etc.)

HGNY Veteran Day Program: Advanced Horsemanship and Riding

This day program is offered to veterans and their supporters who have participated in our Intro to Horsemanship Day Program with Higher Ground NY or a weeklong Equine/Horsemanship HGNY Program.

In this program you will be able to take the skills you have previously learned through our programming to the next level facilitated by our partners at Wolcott Farms.

Our week-long outdoor therapeutic recreation programs support those experiencing symptoms of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, Military Sexual Trauma, and/or Polytrauma. The program is designed to help you discover a renewed sense of belonging, improve quality of life, and connect you with a community.

 

 

Snow Sports Program for Male and Female Veterans and their Significant Others 

  • Who: 9 male and female veterans and their significant others 
  • WhatA week of recreational therapy through downhill skiing or snowboarding  no experience necessary 
  • WhenDecember 13 – 19, 2020 
  • WhereSun Valley, Idaho 
  • Accommodations: Private Rooms at the Sun Valley Resort
  • Accessibility: Adaptive Ski Equipment is Available if Needed
  • Cost: HG covers all related costs, including travel costs for both veterans and supporters 

A few notes about our program

  • Registration: Our programs are for veterans with symptoms of PTSD, TBI, MST, and/or polytrauma. If you would like to attend a program, you must first register on our website here. From there, a Participant Coordinator will be in contact with you regarding available opportunities for you. If you have already registered but your contact information has changed, please let us know so we can continue to inform you of upcoming programs! Just email dave@highergroundusa.org with any relevant changes.
  • One-Time Experience: Due to our lengthy waitlist, we are only able to provide one week-long program. We provide resources to find recreation in your home community, as well as 3 years of follow-up after you have completed our program. 
  • Recreational Therapy: Our programs incorporate daily group discussions to reflect on the impact of recreation, typically they last about an hour right before dinner.
